Yoga, Sea Turtle Conservation & Free diving
With The STX Sea Turtle Project
Join Dr. Kelly Stewart and her team who have been running various genetic studies with Leatherbacks, Greens and Hawksbill hatchlings at Sandy Point National Reserve for the past 2 decades. Alongside the STX Sea Turtle Project staff, you will learn all about these projects and even get to participate in some hands on nesting research! A typical day is waking up with the sun hunting down new nesting turtle crawls from the night. We will also return back for susnet where the baby nesting turtles begin to emerge! This retreat donates part of the proceeds to support these amazing efforts.
Dr. Larry Wood is one of our hosts for this retreat as well as the Director and founder of the Florida Hawksbill Project. He is the exuberant turtle enthusiast that has been studying Hawksbill behavior in South Florida and throughout the Caribbean for almost 30 years now! He will be our all around wildlife guide in and out of the water, as well as answer any questions regarding these various projects.
Dr. Larry Wood also the director of the National Save the Sea Turtle Foundation and his teammate Ana Bennet raise and distribute funds to help asisst Sea Turtle Conservation efforts througout the oceans. Anna is also a master diver, capitain and permitted in water researcher for the NSTSTF.
With 500hr RYT Layna Moehl
Layna is a 500hr RYT practitioner. For 8 years she has led all forms of yoga from Advanced asana, including Vinyasa and Ashtanga to rejuvenating slow flow, restorative and yin sessions. Being diverse in her practice she encompasses the yin and yang of the practice. The stillness and the dynamisms. Overall the practice is a deep connection to the divine self within, to the higher power that connects us all, to mother nature that supports us in this experience. With a balance of physical strength and flexibility aligned with the stillness and bliss within the mind and self. She has studied techniques of this connection throughout Central and South America, India and Sri Lanka, knowing there is not one way to embody and embrace this sacred practice of yoga. With an integration of breath, asana, kriya, mediation, chi, wisdom and devotion; yoga dissolves into a way of life rather than a practice.
Layna also works closely with Larry and Anna in collaborating with research efforts and fund raising for the Florida Hawksbill Project and the NSTSTF. This is the 5th year organizing this trip and teaming up with the STX project. She is a profound freediver and uses breath work as a powerful tool to find a deep state of bliss in and out of the water, connecting with all things natural.
